South Korean Tekken pro Lim “Ulsan” Soo-hoon, representing Kwangdong Freecs (KDF), has proven himself as one of the top Tekken players globally by winning the REV Major 2023 championship. This prestigious event, part of the Tekken World Tour, attracted over 250 competitors eager to showcase their skills in the fighting game arena. The competition was fierce, with players from different regions engaging in intense battles.

In the top 8 bracket, Ulsan faced tough opponents, including his teammate Jae-hyun “CBM” Kim and the highly skilled Hwoarang player Hyeon Jeon “Yeonarang”. Despite the challenging matchups, Ulsan’s exceptional skills and determination propelled him through the brackets, ultimately leading him to the grand final.

Ulsan’s journey to victory encountered a significant obstacle in the form of CBM. The two fierce competitors clashed in the first round of the Top 8 bracket, where Ulsan showcased his mastery of Bob, defeating CBM 2-0 and relegating him to the losers’ bracket.

However, CBM’s journey was far from over, as he fought his way through the losers’ bracket with unwavering determination, aiming for a rematch with his teammate in the grand final.

The grand final showdown between the two KDF representatives was nothing short of spectacular. CBM, known for his skillful use of Noctis, displayed his prowess by securing a resounding 3-0 victory against Ulsan’s Bob and Feng, resetting the bracket and setting the stage for an exhilarating final match.

With everything at stake, Ulsan faced a crucial decision. Under mounting pressure, true champions rise to the occasion. In a surprising move, he switched to Kazumi, a character he was originally renowned for due to her compact and calculated playstyle. This character swap proved to be a game-changer as the Korean fighter unleashed a flawless performance.

In the final round of the tournament, the Kazumi player managed to gain the life lead with well-timed mid and low pokes, pressuring his opponent to contest his turn. With less than 40 seconds remaining on the clock and only 30 percent of his life bar left, CBM made a fatal mistake by throwing a random Royal Edge (d/f+2) and missing. Ulsan seized the opportunity and punished CBM for his error with a Tiger Wind Uppercut (d/f+2), carrying him to the wall with a combo and concluding the series with a 3-1 victory.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Ulsan secured the final victory, earning him the title of this year’s REV Major champion. His adaptability, resilience, and unmatched skill were on full display, garnering the admiration of fans who chanted his name.

Aside from the US$2,500 prize, Ulsan’s triumph at REV Major grants him 400 TWT points, propelling him to second place, alongside Arslan Ash, on the global leaderboard.

The Tekken World Tour 2023 Global Finals will take place at the Civic Theater in New Orleans, USA from January 12 to 14. Nineteen of the top players from the global leaderboard will be joined by the Last Chance Qualifier winner to battle it out and determine the TWT 2023 champion.
