The highly anticipated expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, called Phantom Liberty, is set to release on Sept. 26. Along with a new campaign and character, the game will also receive a major update (2.0) that brings exciting changes to its core systems. A new trailer showcased at Gamescom 2023 unveiled additional weapons, a revamped skill tree, and enhanced vehicular combat.
What’s New in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
The Gamescom 2023 trailer introduced several new weapons, including sniper rifles like the “Osprey” and “Rasetsu,” a shiny red katana, a flamethrower named “Hercules,” and a new category of illegal modified weapons such as shotguns, handguns, and submachine guns.
Phantom Liberty will also come with Update 2.0, a free overhaul of the game’s mechanics. This update introduces a new cyberware system that ties V’s armor stats to equipped cyberware, offering more customization options and stat-based boosts or debuffs. The perks system has been expanded to include abilities like bullet deflection, mid-air dashes, and various finishing moves. Additionally, a new skill tree associated with the Relic chip embedded in V’s body enhances their abilities even further.
The trailer also revealed a brand-new vehicular combat system, allowing players to hack nearby vehicles while in transit and unleash chaos on enemies. The game’s “wanted” system has been revamped as well, with different tiers of the NCPD giving chase until the formidable MaxTac Psycho Squad is deployed.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and Update 2.0 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC on Sept. 26.
