Dplus KIA’s bot laner, Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, has made a name for himself in the world of League of Legends esports. After a thrilling victory at Worlds 2022, Deft reflects on his gaming journey and reveals his deep love for nature and animals.
From Starcraft to League of Legends
Deft’s gaming journey began by watching his older brother play Starcraft. Inspired by his sibling, he started playing the game himself. Although he initially struggled with League of Legends, his determination to improve pushed him forward. By the 11th grade, he had set his sights on becoming a professional player.
A Passion for Nature and Animals
As Deft gained fame in the esports world, he experienced both the kindness of fans and the harsh realities of people. This led him to develop a deep connection with nature and animals, finding solace in their presence.
His love for animals dates back to his childhood, as his brother had a keen interest in them. Growing up, their home became a lively menagerie, housing various animals such as hamsters, dogs, cats, fish, turtles, lizards, and even spiders. Today, Deft’s family house is home to three adopted Korean Shorthair cats.
A Naturalist’s Knowledge
Deft’s passion for nature extends beyond his personal experiences. His extensive knowledge about animals has impressed his teammates, as he often shares interesting facts from the nature documentaries he watches. While he may not know much about alpacas, he humorously acknowledges a resemblance between himself and these tranquil creatures.
Future Endeavors as a Nature Documentary Director
Looking ahead to his post-retirement years, Deft dreams of becoming a nature documentary director. Although he is uncertain about the specific subject matter, he recognizes the need for further research and exploration to pursue this passion.
With his genuine love for animals and nature, Deft’s journey from gaming prodigy to nature documentary director promises to be an exciting one.
