Unveiling the Unique Style of a Self-Taught Artist
Discovering your artistic style can be a daunting task for any artist. However, successful artists have a distinct style that sets them apart from the rest. Singapore-based artist Rachta Lin, known for her work with DC Comics and MTG, is one such artist. With her vibrant use of Copic markers and pens, she brings characters to life through a variety of colors and poses.
But Rachta’s journey to finding her artistic style was not an easy one. Over a decade ago, she produced a significant amount of digital art in a completely different style. She believed that this was necessary to succeed in the industry. However, over time, she evolved and finally found her true artistic self.
The Evolution of an Artist
Rachta’s first principle as an artist is to constantly push herself beyond her limits. “I try to keep improving. If you stagnate, that’s not good, as with anything in life,” she says. Her style has undergone drastic changes over the years, as she experimented with different techniques and mediums. From black and white drawings to digital art, Rachta explored various styles, proud of her willingness to try new things.
Eventually, she followed her heart and embraced traditional Copic drawing, a skill she had honed for years. While she believes there is always room for improvement, she feels that her style has reached a level of maturity. “I can improve on it, but maybe the style will be more stabilized,” she reflects.
Embracing Traditional Art and Manga
Currently, Rachta is focused on further developing her manga skills as she works on her very first manga series, “The Wonderverse Saga.” She dives deeper into traditional art, drawing inspiration from comic book covers and infusing her work with a dark tone. By adding her own touch and personality to her art, Rachta believes it becomes more identifiable and unique.
Expressing Yourself Through Art
Rachta believes that art is a reflection of who you are and how you see the world. “Who you are can be many things, a combination of what you like,” she says. Therefore, your art, the tools you use, and your expressive style can all be a representation of yourself. By infusing her art with her own preferences and inspirations, Rachta creates pieces that have a distinct character and style.
