If you’re excited for the next Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 3, you’re in for a treat! Sledgehammer Games has just released a sneak peek at the first MW3 Campaign mission and new footage of the open combat missions you’ll encounter in your pursuit of Makarov. During Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live, Call of Duty also hinted that Verdansk might make a comeback in Modern Warfare 3.
Sledgehammer Games’ Shelby Carleton and Dave Swenson introduced the new open combat missions in Modern Warfare 3. Players will have the freedom to choose from a variety of MW3 weapons to tackle these open-ended combat missions. You can take advantage of equipment options from MW3 multiplayer, such as killstreaks, to complete objectives in your own unique way.
Interestingly, the footage reveals locations that bear a striking resemblance to the original Warzone map Verdansk, but set at night. While it’s unclear if this means Verdansk will return as a larger Warzone map, it seems that this location is limited to the MW3 campaign.
In the MW3 campaign, Verdansk will be seen from a new perspective in the year 2023, as a new threat has completely locked down the capital of Kastovia. Sledgehammer Games has also confirmed that players can utilize vehicles and armor plates to aid them in their missions.
These open combat missions add a new level of replayability to Modern Warfare 3, allowing for different approaches and strategies. However, it remains to be seen if they will lack the scripted action sequences that make Call of Duty campaigns visually appealing.
