Introducing the Exciting Swiss Stage at Worlds 2023

Phyre Kimble

Get ready for the thrilling Swiss Stage at the League of Legends World Championship 2023! This new format replaces the Group Stage and promises intense battles between teams from different regions. Let’s dive into the details of this exciting stage.

Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage Format Explained

The Swiss Stage is the second stage of the LoL World Championship, following the Play-Ins. It marks the beginning of the main event and determines which teams will advance to the Knockout Stage.

In this format, teams with the same win-loss records face off until they secure either three victories or three defeats. The initial round consists of randomly paired best-of-one games between teams from different regions.

In the second round and onwards, teams are re-matched based on their win-loss records. The qualification and elimination rounds are best-of-three series.

Ultimately, teams that accumulate three wins advance to the Knockout Stage, while those with three losses bid farewell to the tournament. Out of the 16 participating teams, eight will progress to the playoffs.
