K-pop sensation NewJeans has joined forces with Riot Games to create the official anthem for Worlds 2023, titled “Gods.” The highly anticipated song will be released on October 3 and will be available on various music streaming platforms.
All five members of NewJeans, namely Danielle, Haerin, Hanni, Hyein, and Minji, will lend their voices to this anthem, which was written by Riot Games’ principal composer Sebastien Najand and Alex Seaver of Mako. The release of “Gods” will mark the culmination of season 13 and will be played throughout the tournament, scheduled to take place from October 10 to November 19 in South Korea.
NewJeans expressed their excitement about this collaboration, stating that it was a new and enjoyable experience for them to explore a different genre and sound. They are proud to present a song that combines the unique colors of both NewJeans and League of Legends, hoping that it will empower and inspire listeners.
This collaboration makes NewJeans the first K-pop act to perform the Worlds anthem, following in the footsteps of (G)I-DLE and Twice, who previously worked with Riot Games for the popular group K/DA.
The music video for “Gods” will revolve around the story of Korean pro player Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu. It will showcase his journey from discovering League of Legends in high school to his remarkable victory at Worlds 2022. Fans can expect to see familiar faces and unforgettable moments reimagined in the music video, as teased by Carrie Dunn, Global Head of Creative, Esports at Riot Games.
Dunn further emphasized the significance of this partnership, as Worlds is taking place in Korea and NewJeans is experiencing a meteoric rise in the K-pop industry. The song “Gods” combines epic and intense production elements with NewJeans’ beautiful and powerful vocals, capturing both the hard work and the glory that await the players at Worlds.
NewJeans made their debut in July 2022 under ADOR, an independent label within HYBE led by Hee Jin Min. They aim to redefine K-pop with their genuine and youth-centric music, much like the timeless appeal of a pair of jeans. Their debut album, “NewJeans,” released in August 2022, achieved tremendous success, making them the first K-pop group to achieve a million-seller debut. Their title track, “Hype Boy,” broke records by staying on the Billboard Global 200 chart for an unprecedented 37 weeks, solidifying their position as a prominent female K-pop act.
