Nightdive Studios, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, is set to release a remastered version of the beloved 1995 first-person shooter, Star Wars: Dark Forces. This iconic game will be reintroduced to modern audiences in high definition, featuring enhanced graphics, improved gameplay, and added features.
The remastered version, titled Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster, will utilize Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX engine, offering support for up to 4K resolution at 120FPS. The game will also include modern gamepad support, remastered cutscenes, and the addition of trophies and achievements to enhance the original gaming experience.
Players will once again assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a mercenary hired by the Rebel Alliance to uncover and dismantle the Galactic Empire’s Dark Trooper project. This covert military operation aimed to develop Force-sensitive stormtroopers and battle droids. The game will feature iconic locations from the original Star Wars trilogy, as well as new and unique environments.
Star Wars: Dark Forces has garnered a dedicated following since its initial release, and its inclusion in the Steam storefront in 2009 further solidified its popularity. The game even received recognition in official Star Wars lore with the introduction of Dark Troopers in The Mandalorian. This remastered version will allow both new and longtime fans to experience one of the defining early video game entries in the Star Wars franchise.
Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X later this year.
