Valve’s latest Dota 2 Summer update focuses on improving the overall gaming experience for players. From a revamped armory system to stricter measures against toxic behavior, as well as graphic upgrades, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
New Armory System and Summer Cosmetics
Valve has introduced a new armory system that provides a clearer view of your cosmetics collection. The armory is now organized by heroes, allowing you to easily explore all the item sets available for each hero. You can mix and match items and even try them out before making a purchase. Additionally, duplicates no longer clutter your armory, and you can now sort items by their market value.
To celebrate summer, Valve has also released new cosmetics in the form of a Summer Collector’s Cache. This cache includes complete sets for 16 heroes, including rare sets for Anti-Mage’s Wei Persona, Marci, and Snapfire.
Behavior Score Update: Dealing with Toxic Players
Valve has completely revamped the player behavior system in Dota 2. Commending players you enjoy playing with now has an in-game benefit, as they are more likely to appear in your future games as allies or opponents. On the other hand, a new dislike button allows you to have some control over your future teammates.
For players who exhibit toxic behavior, a new reporting system has been implemented. It includes six different categories: Toxic Chat, Toxic Voice, Smurfing, Griefing, Cheating, and Role Abuse. You can report these players at any time, and there are no longer any limits on the number of reports you can make. Reported chats will be analyzed in real-time, and offending players will immediately lose their voice and text chat privileges.
Players who successfully report others will receive specific notifications about the actions taken against the reported players, rather than generic messages. The behavior score has been split into separate behavior and communication scores, with higher caps of 12,000. Certain privileges, such as playing ranked or pausing in-game, now require minimum behavior scores of 3,000 and 5,000, respectively.
Graphic Upgrades: A Visual Treat
Dota 2’s graphics have also received an update. Particle lighting, shadows, and tone mapping have all been improved. The overall lighting has been enhanced, making tower attacks and other light sources appear more vibrant on heroes. Clouds now cast shadows once again, and sun shadows are now higher resolution. A new tone map has been implemented to increase contrast in darker regions.
These graphic upgrades bring back the higher-contrast and saturated look that Dota had before transitioning to Source 2.
