Heartsteel Steals the Show at League of Legends Worlds 2023 Opening Ceremony

Kelly Young

Heartsteel, the all-male virtual group by Riot Games, wowed audiences at the League of Legends Worlds 2023 opening ceremony in Seoul, South Korea. The group features six popular League of Legends champions: Ezreal, Kayn, Aphelios, Yone, K’Sante, and Sett.

The ceremony showcased an incredible live performance of Heartsteel’s debut song “Paranoia” by four real-life musicians. With the help of augmented reality effects, the stage came alive, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

The electrifying performance began with American artist Cal Scruby embodying Kayn, singing and wielding a massive Darkin Scythe prop. EXO’s Baekhyun followed, dressed as Heartsteel Ezreal, with a stunning animated projection of Ezreal behind him, unleashing a spectacular Trueshot Barrage through AR technology.

Next, Ozi took the stage, channeling the essence of Sett with powerful rap lines. Tobi Lou, representing K’Sante, showcased his formidable vocals in the bridge of “Paranoia.”

The climax of the performance came as the massive LED screen shattered, revealing augmented reality versions of all six Heartsteel members. The champions and artists sang and danced together, reminiscent of Riot’s previous sensation, the all-girl group K/DA, during Worlds 2018.

Immediately after the Heartsteel spectacle, Mako and Tyler Smith, the vocalist of The Word Alive, delivered a haunting rendition of the Worlds 2018 anthem, “Rise.”
