K-pop sensation NewJeans wows the crowd at the League of Legends Worlds 2023 opening ceremony with their electrifying live performance. The group, consisting of Danielle, Hanni, Haerin, Hyein, and Minji, showcased their talents on the LoL stage in Seoul, South Korea.
Their debut performance featured their collaborative track with Riot Games, titled “Gods,” which serves as this season’s esports anthem. The music video for “Gods” revolves around the journey of last year’s Worlds champion, Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, from his high school days to his victorious moment. The song was written by Riot Games’ Sebastien Najand and Mako’s Alex Seaver.
NewJeans made a powerful entrance, exuding confidence with their fierce expressions that captivated esports fans. Their attire and headgear drew inspiration from the Divine Sword Irelia skin of the Immortal Journey line. The audience was treated to a mesmerizing dance choreography alongside the live performance of the theme song.
As the performance reached its climax, augmented reality technology brought a colossal Mordekaiser to life in the audience area. A Riot Games actor, wielding Leona’s shield, took center stage while NewJeans continued to sing and dance behind him. The performance concluded with an epic clash between AR animations of Leona and Mordekaiser, resulting in Leona’s victory.
The grand finale of the opening ceremony featured NewJeans dancing to the instrumental part of the anthem, setting the stage for the introduction of the finals teams T1 and Weibo Gaming.
NewJeans, composed of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, debuted on July 22, 2022, as the first group from ADOR, an independent label under HYBE led by Hee Jin Min. The group is renowned for their hit singles “Attention,” “Hype Boy,” “OMG,” and “Super Shy.” This year, they collaborated with Riot Games to perform “Gods,” the anthem for Worlds 2023.
