If you’re looking for a handheld device to play PS5 games on the go, the PlayStation Portal might not be the answer. While it resembles the Nintendo Switch and offers remote play capabilities, there’s one major drawback – it can only be used within the same WiFi network as your PS5 console. This means you can’t take it outside your home and access your PS5 library anywhere you want.
The PlayStation Portal features an eight-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution and 60fps capability. The built-in controller offers all the features of a DualSense, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. However, the fixed screen-controller design may affect gameplay experience due to intense vibrations.
Unfortunately, streaming games through PS Plus Premium is not supported on the PlayStation Portal. You can still play PS Plus games, but you’ll need to download them. If you’re considering buying the device, it may be worth investing in a PS5 SSD for better storage.
The PlayStation Portal is priced at $199.99 / £199.99 and is set to launch later this year. PlayStation has also announced two new audio devices: the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore, offering wireless earbuds and premium audio experiences.
